I used to work in a Hobby shop - those things are expensive! (Plus they have some of the most overbearing copy-protection known to man)
...But yes, they're very good for learning to fly.
Hey, what sort of plane is it? I used to live near a big cliff great for flying gliders. (it's hard to throw your expensive stuff off it though) I have:
- A Zagi 3C - an indestructible 2ch glider that is really good for learning to fly, and is very manoeuvrable. And I mean indestructible. I've had it run perpendicularly into the cliff at full speed with minimal damage. (Broke a $5 servo horn)
- An old balsa 2-meter wingspan 2ch glider. I've only flown it 3 times. I was learning on it - the third time I threw it off the cliff I forgot to turn the damn thing on. I watched it very calmly, sedately, descend, until it landed gracefully in the ocean. The damned thing got hit by a few waves and the wing broke in half. However, I ran down there and swam out and retrieved it. It's repaired, but I haven't used it since.
- A delta-wing balsa-covered-foam plane. It doesn't have radio gear yet, but it should be a very fast thing.
- A 'Freedom Flyer' by Venom (not megatech) - a 3ch electric glider, with ~1.2m wingspan. Unfortunately I can't fly my gliders anymore - there are no cliffs where I live. This plane is pretty cool though, and I'm having fun with it.
