Having spent six months on a cruise ship where we used a combination of Euro-style plugs and your American things, I think I can comment!
At least fifteen of the Edisons fell apart during my tour, and not a single European.
I've only ever seen three UK plugs break in my life - all of them because they got dropped a few metres onto concrete.

And it's British Standard, not bovine excrement you goit!
