In the market for rack-mounted hardware. by rorajoey 2005-05-03 11:38:44
I'd like to build a rack-mounted computer, so I guess I'll need (1) a rack and (2) a server to install in the rack.

This rig will be primarily for video editing and DVD production, so I'm thinking the most important consideration will be the speed of my physical storage; I'd like to use SCSI (at least 160 wide) and RAID 5.

How about 2 SCSI channels: 1 for the RAID array and the other for some DVD writers? Is it possible to get DVD writers for a SCSI bus, or are they all EIDE?

Recommendations for hardware/sources? I'm hoping to find a reasonable compromise between performance and price, because my budget isn't really huge (and whose is?).
