I think it was an accident when my SO let someone at work boost his car - I suspect he reversed the booster cables, and boosted while the car was running. It cost $700CDN to fix - not cheap. But that Outback ran for us until 2002, with 275,000 km. on it. (About 170,000 miles) Then we sold it to someone else who drives a lot. It's still on the road, and I bet it has well over 300,000 km. on it.
