... a hacker is anyone who can do a hack, i.e., create something clever and elegant that works. That has nothing to do with privacy, does it? Leonardo da Vinci was a *great* hacker, and there were no computers back then... :P

If you think the prof's right then you think hackers=bad because you associate hacker=thief, or hacker=cracker. But really, words can mean anything you want them to, so either you hack yourself to change your meaning of the word "hacker", or you don't. Up to you really.
