should be re-written. The sources are free, so why not?
Unless you 'd object to "auto-optimizers" and would want to have an "option argument"
I 'll have to check if the option exists, but I cannot imagine e.g. "flex" NOT optimising internally.

Well, I didn't really CHECK that, so I can easily be too optimistic. Any repetition of * though should be caught, as it doesn't add meaning, only unreadability for humans.
