                      Shouldn't that be... by sylvan2005-05-03 02:16:16
Nah, you're reading it windowswise by SciSSorS 2005-05-03 02:28:39
while "********" would secretly imply that every * stands for "a character" . In windows that should be noted as "???????" (7, not 8 of 'em)
I meant it as "beeped-out-non-FYOSS" so that doesn't need quotes.
And IF it had been a regexp, writing it as ******* means: zero or more repetions of zero or more repetions of zero or more repetions of zero or more repetions of zero or more repetions of zero or more repetions of zero or more repetions of (blank) as the ONLY character immediately preceding the string of * isa blank.
But repeating the "zero or more repetions of " is just plain silly, and it WILL be caught by the optimizers, converting it to the simpler * (still meaning zero or more repetions of (blank) )

                              I think I do object to "auto-optimizers" by sylvan2005-05-03 02:48:30
