Linux, Sound and My Sanity(or what little is left) by Da_Pineapple2005-03-26 19:47:46
alsa and stuff by imrambi 2005-03-26 20:38:56
I don't know how you have configured your kernel (or slacks stock kernel) but set alsa as a module with no sound card selected. Once you have compiled the kernel, then install alsa and alsa-utils. I don't know swaret good enough to have you go through that, but in gentoo, I have to pass it what card I'm compiling for. Once those are installed, you should be set to go.

If you are using KDE, make sure you have xmms-arts installed, or you won't get any sound no matter what (If your using KDE, do this first). If your using gnome, I can't help you there. XFCE, doesn't have a middle man. Hope this helps.
