Not all Amendments in the Bill of Rights by NOLAWitch 2006-11-19 12:55:59
are targeted at individual rights. Review Amendments 3, 5 and 6 which reference individuals (the owner, no person, the accused) whereas the rest reference the people as a collective. It seems disingenuous to suggest that the Second Amendment, which clearly states that the need for a well regulated militia is necessary to the security of a free state, refers to individual security. If the Founders intended it to be for individual security, would they not have said "necessary to the security of the people"? And "well regulated" cannot possibly mean the willy-nilly private ownership of firearms by individuals totally free of all restriction.
