who says that life is sacred because it is a gift from his god. So, he is "not afraid of dying", but won't do anything associated with the slightest risk because it would be a sin. I think, though that it is more about misinterpreting rationality. They forgot the importance of enjoying life, only going for what is "good", and so don't see any value in eating the cakes.
