we believe that the decisions of life and death are exclusively the domain of the Almighty. I think your relatives are going overboard on the cookies and cake thing, though. A healthy diet for your grandmother should still be the status quo, and I would request the same, but not to the extreme of denying cookies and cake. Jeez, everyone likes cookies and cake. Everyone should be able to have cookies and cake.
When we let my dad go, my mom (who is very Catholic, and who doesn't always understand medical procedures) was adamant that nothing, absolutely nothing be done to advance his death. Removing him from life support, letting nature take it's course, and making him comfortable so he wouldn't feel himself suffocating were all acceptable to her. But administering anything to expedite the process was absolutely out of the question for her. Nothing like this was planned, of course, I'm just stating that to communicate her position at the time. |
