I thought they'd cast a Shakespearean actor, not Peter Kay. I was cringing at the acting and the accent. Still it took me a while to warm to Colin Baker and Sylvester McCoy.

I agree on the episode length, after checking the episode guide, they've gone 'Star Trek' in using 45 minute story arcs. There are 3 stories that may be 2 parters, but that loses all those iconic cliffhangers.

As for the effects, very shiny, except for one bit. Without posting a spoiler someone needs to buy the BBC a copy of the Photoshop manual.

I'll give the whole series a chance, but I think they've gone too far and lost the charm of the original. Entertaining, but like a souffle, lacking in substance.
