If it says "gun" in the TLP, it's still a gun post. I don't have to read it to know it's another gun post. It's still another gun on the board. Every time there's guns in a forum I otherwise enjoy, a little part of my brain goes "Eek!" and feels threatened. It doesn't matter that it's been 13 years since my assault. It doesn't matter that the person posting is a million miles away. It's a deep-down visceral reaction, not unlike someone posting "graphic castration" in the TLP subject line would be for many others. I'm not saying that other people need to be responsible for my own trauma. But User Friendly is not a comic strip about guns. It's not. If it were, then I'd expect to see this much gun-toting and conservatism, and I'd know what to expect when I get here. It's a strip about geeks. I come here expecting to see geekery. Not guns. Geekery. High-tech toys. Software. Operating systems. Praise of open source. Where have all the distros gone? I come to the boards here and I let my guard down. If "Gun" is in the TLP subject, then it doesn't matter if I click through. I already know-- it's another gun sitting on the message board. All Kickstart is asking is for people to ease up, because this board is rapidly becoming the kind of place where many of us don't want to be. And that is definitely not what User Friendly is about.
