As another poster wrote, it would be a lot easier if the daily forum was segregated by topic like most Web forums. However, that would take away from the "groupchat" feel of this board that was designed in the first place.
Given that constraint, and given that gun threads are generally well within the realm of the FYOSS-rule (and is thus un-bannable), what we need is a way of organizing the threads in a manner that helps keep the forum readable for the many.
We at present don't have a way to do this. Thus, the only way we have to keep some semblance of balance is to ask the gun topic posters to ease up a little.
This does NOT stop there, however. If you don't like the way the forum has been dominated by gun threads, then post something interesting yourself. If you put your feet up and simply expect other UFies to post material that entertains you and only pipe up to complain, I don't have the time of day to listen to you.
That's a harsh way of saying that forums are a two-way street. You as a board member have as much freedom to post here as any other board member. I trust your expectations are matched by your willingness to contribute to what goes on here, yes?
Rest assured that should the Cat Threads or any other for that matter begin to weigh a bit too heavily on the board, you can expect the same reaction from myself or KS. We'll ask the posters to ease up then look long and hard at the other members who complain and contribute nothing to the forum.
I think this is fair. What do you think? |
