| First of all, the GI bill isn't worth a dang. Might cover your electric bill and a dinner out with the SO, that's about it. So education via that ain't going to do it. Some states, however, do offer 100% college tuition for a stint in the National Guard. Depends on the state though. There is no current draft system. It's an all volunteer military. As stated...You'd have an Army of Privates. From experience, it's hard for one junior NCO to handle 8 Privates that actually want to be there, I can't imagine being a 22 year old E5 with a platoon of 32 conscripts. Order and discipline would be gone. Funny, they always try to push 'cop' on you when you're trying to get out. Soldiers are trained to kill, not settle domestic disputes. I was an excellent soldier (with the evaluation reports to back that claim up) I would be a horrid cop. First time I had to pull some guy off of a woman whose butt he is kicking, I would probably beat him within an inch of his life, no questions asked. Yes, I can shoot straight, but don't we want to keep cops from drawing their weapons as often as possible.? Why is it the Government's responsibility to curb obesity? Parents need to tell their kids to get off the freaking couch and go shoot some baskets! Play some kickball! Run around the block! Do something besides eat twinkies and play PS2 all day. Besides, most of all, this is supposed to be a free country. People have the choice to serve or not, and I for one, wouldn't have wanted to do it if I had to do it. What are you fighting for if you Government doesn't give you the choice to do it? And as someone who has raised his right hand and swore to defend the Constitution of the United States, I certainly wouldn't want a conscript in the foxhole with me. Nu-uh. IMO the Government is already way way WAY too ivolved with peoples lives. I would hate for them to take that next step. I would be proud of any of my children if they decided to join, but I would move out of country if they were forced to join. Conscription is not a 'freedom' worth dying for. |
