This gun fetishism annoys me. (rant inside) by chrisP2005-03-22 11:18:07
Feel free to be annoyed, but by run.dll 2005-03-22 11:58:56
I think thou dost protest overmuch.

Scanning down the day's postings, I see five TLPs that may qualify (not including yours). One of them advocated complete gun control, so I think we can rule out "fetishism" there. One discussed the supposed link between violent video games and violent crime, which appears to me to be quite on topic for this board.

The remaining three discussed the nature of limitations placed on peace officers with respect to guns, the source of the firearms used by the fellow who shot those Mounties last week and a breakfast w/ guns post. Given yesterday's events, I hardly think this excessive. As for me, I just pass over TLPs that I don't find interesting - I certainly wouldn't want to suggest that my personal tastes and distastes should deter anyone from posting anything of interest to them. (I am not particularly fond of cats and they are not really relevant to computer hardware/software/etc, but there are a number of posters who clearly enjoy sharing photos and stories about their pets. Fine by me.)

After all, this board has expanded far beyond its original purpose of a "User Friendly Strip Comments Index". I suppose one could simply demand that only strip-relevant comments be posted, but I don't think that would get very far.
