Fact checking is a necessary part of competent reportage. A lack of familiarity with a subject is certainly no excuse for not checking the facts - quite the contrary. I was confused by the "fully semi" term. Terminology is not a trivial point when dealing with such matters and shouldn't be dismissed as mere semantics. You are right, however, that a full and careful reading of the article leads to the conclusion that "full auto" capability was involved.
As for our (Canada's) experience with mass shootings, I wonder if the ratio of mass shootings to population is that much different (for the last two decades, say). IIRC, we have had one (Lepine), so an equivalent number south of the border would be about nine since 1985 or so. Have there been many more than that? |
