The reason that they aren't backing down from it isn't political at all. The reason is that the program is already set up, is running and now running well. YES it was a scandle, YES it did run hugely over budget (a VERY unrealistic budget I might add), and yes it was misshandled from the very beginning.
That doesn't mean the pricipal isn't sound. If we were to scrap the program now, that means that ALL those tax dollars are %100 wasted. If we keep it running then while the inital costs were FAR to high (and there should be an inquirey into WHY they were so high) at least we can get some value out of it.
Telus knows exactly what I am talking about. They bought Clearnet for a massivily infalted price, but you don't see them dumbing a profitable enterprise simply because they paid to much for it. No, they sucked it in, ate the loss and now are doing better than ever.
