when incidents like this invariably result in calls for stiffer regulation of legal gun ownership. Unless a problem is approached in a logical manner it has no chance of being effectively dealt with. Unfortunately, I have little faith in Ottawa's ability to look at this with a clear eye. The long-gun registry, for instance, is a well-known billion dollar farce, but Ottawa won't back down from it for purely political reasons. Imagine what the Mounties could have done with a billion dollars these past ten years.
