Parents have NO rights by hyzenthlay 2005-03-22 09:15:25
Not after that kid is 18. Some people are extrememly close to their parents, others have little or no contact. To assume any kind of bond is not supportable in a legal environment.

Whereas a apouse is a selection you make. The assumption would have to be that your spouse ought to know most intimatly what you would want. (Excepting cases or other known abuse etc.)

It is not inapropriate for a court to make such a decision. They have procedures in place for gathering, evaluating, and presenting evidence in an atmosphere that does not involve family members screaming at each other across a hospital bed. I see no reason why they shoudl not be used where a conflict exists. If anything, Michael Schaivo was very kind to use the court procedure to allow the parents their chance rather then put his foot down and demand the tube removal.
