After all, if you have a crazy sicko who should be heavily medicated attending the school, a gun just makes hir life easier. They're still going to do damage somehow. The Columbine guys were building shrapnel bombs in their garages, iirc. Arming teachers may help deal with the threat, but we should also explore why we allow kids to escalate to this point.

The current legal environment AND funding mechanisms (public and private) make it very difficult to get serious treatment though, so a lot of the loons wander about without help. Some parents are in denial of course, but we should look into better ways to get help for those who seek it.

One reason I refuse to go into teaching (and quite a few think I would be a good one) is that I fear for my safety in the current climate. If I were allowed to go through such training I might be more likely to consider it.
