It's not wheat at all, it's yeast. Almost every brewer in the country ships their brewing dregs to the factory in Burton-on-Trent, in Staffordshire, where it's turned into Marmite.

A marmite is actually a cooking pot. The Marmite jar is an approximation of the shape, and there's a little picture of a marmite on the front of the Marmite jar.

It's incredibly healthy stuff. Vitamin B12 is found almost uniquely in meat, and in yeast. If you don't eat any animal at all then Marmite is one of the very few natural ways of getting B12.
