I used the retraining funding to get my A+ and MCDBA certifications. I don't know if your layoff provides any avenues for that. The certs only served to prove that I was trainable and I ended up doing help desk for M$ and SBC Yahoo for a year before finally landing a DBA job. The main thing I did was set a goal and put one foot in front of the other until I got there. BTW, some folks are waiting for you to "Post New Comment" in your diary. Just say hello and they'll take it from there ;-)
