older ATI vidcard questions - DVD performance by theanomaly 2006-11-19 12:55:59
I have an older 2MB pci-based ATI Rage II card that supports video capture and video-out. I'm currently running it in an AthlonXP 1700+ system with 256MB ram, and have it hooked to a 25" TV.

Question #1 - playing DVD results in rather grainy video playback. Fast motion such as drumsticks in a concert DVD result in the sticks appearing as though they were being viewed with a strobelight. Grainy flickering. That's about the best I do to describe it. Is it the card, the DVD drive, or something else?

Question #2 - the card has what would appear, from a pin-count, to be connectors similar to IDE connectors on it. Not being familiar with such, and with Google not returning much meaningful info in my search, can someone enlighten me as to what they would be? I'm hoping for some sort fo older DVD acceleration form, but as nothing appears in device manager, and no literature seems to refer to the connections at all, I'm at a loss. Picture of the card here, connectors circled in red.

Anybody? Bueller? (and thanks) :)
