Well, maybe not millions, depending on your definition of "expert". A suitable definition of expert could leave you with less than a million such people in the world, I'm quite sure.
But anyway, I think it's rather obvious this is true. I'm somewhat taken aback that you would think otherwise, actually. Let me cite some examples.
Open source software: thousands of people donate their time to this every day. Are these people not experts sharing knowledge for free?
Usenet: thousands of experts post on Usenet every day helping people with problems about anything at all, including medical and legal problems.
Academics: much of what comes out of the academic world is released completely free. E.g. take most papers, and things like MIT's Kerberos.
I'm sure there are plenty of examples, including many Wikipedia articles. These are just a few. |
