Not sure if it's the same event but Jasper Maskelyne deceived the Germans by installing an arrangements of lights which made it appear that Alexandria in Egypt was in a different location... Assuming that this is the answer you were looking for, this is my question: Who was "in charge" of the fictitious 1st Army Group which convinced the Germans that D-Day would take place at the Pas De Calais?
