woman. I do not move fast and I have extremely poor upper body and lower body strength. If a 6'2 man - the average height of most men I know - came at me with a knife, I would not be able to defend myself. However, if I had a gun and I had been trained to use it in self-defense - I would be able to defend myself and might walk away from the experience.

A friend of mine had a man climb in her bathroom window, take a knife out of her kitchen, and come at her with it. She had a gun in her bedside table and unloaded four bullets into his chest when he was 12 inches away from him. He still managed to stab her in the face 3 times, once in the neck, and slash her chest before he passed out and began to die.

The police arrived 15 minutes after her silent alarm went off and she had lost so much blood that she nearly died. However, had she not had that weapon - my friend who is just under 5'3 and weighs maybe 110 lbs when she's soaking wet would have definately been raped and murdered. And the man who she shot? He died on the scene and his DNA was traced back to 3 rapes and murders in the area.
