life in prison is a greater punishment than death. Living every day, day in and day out in a max security prison is no picnic. Lots of grief and suffering to spread over a lifetime. And then you die, perhaps not so cleanly and easily as the state-administered method. A death sentence, when actually carried out, is over too fast.
