I like a class average of about 70. Below 50 fails and above 90 is excellent. This assumes a class of average ability putting in some effort. I've had classes that were above average and a couple of real duds - I don''t scale marks unless in retrospect I think the exam was too hard. In my senior year everyone failed the Electromagnetism Xmas exam - I got the highest mark at 49%. It was a pretty tough exam.
