New boxen help by voxwoman2005-03-16 11:16:14
$600 should get you a pretty nice box in parts by nedludd 2005-03-16 11:25:37
I built a system over the summer for $800 US that I'm pretty pleased with. It's got a Geforce 5700 Ultra, a Athlon 2800+ and 512 Mb memory, plus optical drives, case, etc. The intended use for mine was to be a mid-range gaming rig, and it runs stuff like HL2, FarCry and Doom 3 pretty well, although not at full resolution or prettyness.

If it's going to be a winbox, if I may suggest it, the best way to save money is if you have a "spare" copy of WindowsXP or whatever other version of Windows you're going to use. That knocks $200 off the price right there, and makes for the biggest advantage to building from parts rather than buying from a vendor.
