The PLO hasn't exactly stayed the same and has evolved to as time changed. BTW, the goal of "Driving the Jews into the Sea" is Hamas, NOT the PLO. The PLO was formed to fight Isreal, specifically in Beruit during the 80s. I remember those pictures from the fighting there. Day after day of bloody fighting until Isreal finally left the place a shattered wreck. Again, Isreal was the aggressor.

After that victory Araft (Who won the Nobel Peace Award) was able to somehow join all the disparate groups that make up "palistine" and finally start to get some structure in place that would allow a true government to form. It was only very recently, just prior to Camp David that the palistinians even had their own police.

After Camp David Isreal attacked and distroyed that system of controls and structure, and weak as it was it totally colapsed under the strain. Now, with no police, no local government, and the regonal government unable to exert any infulence due to it's being confined to Arafat's compound, how exactly do you expect him to maintain control? Even now, their new presient is finding it almost imposible to control the peices that he has been left. When the governments, left, when the police were distroyed, other groups stepped in. We look at Hammas as terrorists. And they commit outragious acts of terror. HOWEVER, you ask someone in Gaza who teaches their children, who supplies medical supplies, who provides security at night, the answer will be Hammas.

It is very hard to fight an organization that is keeping your people fed and safe.
