  If it's one with "power protection" by TrogL 2005-03-16 09:33:51
All it's got is two diodes(??) going to ground. They *should* fail to breaking the circuit but I could conceive (by some strangeness (pun intended) in the space-time continuum) of them "shorting to ground" instead, enough to soak up all the power but not enough to trip the breaker.

I hate those things. They're worse than useless. Throw them out.

The only "power conditioning" that works is transformer type which costs big bucks.
