Well there is a good example of how NOT to act. by pseudonym 2005-03-16 08:51:28
LOL,

You don't have to worry about that. NEVER take drugs accross a boarder. Not pot, not even perscription drugs if they aren't absolutly nessisary for you. Simple as that.

I have alot of respect for the police. Don't get me wrong. My father is a memeber of the RCMP. The problem with the police acting in this mannor is that it takes away the public trust in them. ALL those two officers effected, was to make four more people less likly to call the police when in trouble. The trust has been broken (Not to mention the police beating jay walkers on Whyte Ave with battons, or assulting a laywer on private property, or beating on the natives etc etc etc.. Edmonton is one long litany of police miss-conduct.

I have been smoking pot a lot of years, and have heard many MANY politician say "If you do it in the privacy of your own home, no one will bother you". Obviously noone told the vigilaties that were at my door. (Which has about $500 damage to it now).

It sounds like you are stateside where pot is illegal ( classed the same as crack for gods sake!!) But up here there is a HUGE grey area when it comes to pot right now. For several years the laws were enfored even thought they weren't in effect, and now their doesn't seem to be any consistance in enforcment from one side of the country to another (In Canada there is no provincal law, just Canadian Law). It makes it all very questionable and unclear when it comes to enforcment.

In the end you can only look at the effect that this action had. Did it prevent anyone from doing any crime? No, I went back to the appartment, called up my dealer who then delivered us new pot within 15 minutes. Did they show that the police are vigilant and will work to fight this scorge? No, never has anyone I know had something like this happen, our leaders say this never happens, the police chiefs say this doesn't happen.. so the officers have proven their bosses a liar and proven they have no respect for the law. What they have achived is there are four more people out there with stories about the police over stepping their bounds. That is four more people who no longer trust the police. Oh, and in case you think we are a bunch of punks with nothing better to do, most of us work at a very large ISP here in Canada in senior positions.

If you do become a cop, don't be a cop like these guys. The effect of actions like this can snowball out of control and the consequenses can be fatal. It is guys like this that cause the disstrust, fear and hate that caused Jim Roszcoo to shoot four RCMP officers a little over a week ago. Guys like that are the reason that so many people in Edmonton get into high speed chases, claiming they were afraid of police burtality and getting assulted. We can't afford to loose good officers, because of a few bad apples like the cops in this example.
