Dude, I am so right there with you.
My birthday is March 10th. Do you think anyone, EVER wants to do ANYTING on my birthday? Not with St. Patrick's day being only one week away. They are all saving up for going out hard on THAT day. (Mind you, my buddy has his birthday ON St. Patties and he complains that all everyone does is get drunk!). Not only that, but something awful ALWAYS happens on my birthday.
I will tell you this year's story in hopes that it will cheer you up by listening to someone else's misery hehehe =P.
Anyhow, THIS year, I thought things were going to be different. For once, people had acctually rememebered it was my birthday and were calling me and wishing my happy birthday etc etc. It was great! (See it makes MY day when people ever remember). Then, to celebrate we go to one of my friend's houses and chill there. Not being really into partying, we do what dives all of us a thrill and makes our hearts just pound, we set up a PBX box! W00t w000t!
To say the least, we are also somewhat of a bunch of pot heads, and as it was my birthday we definatly we smoke some joints. So we are there, no music, not real noices, 6" cement walls on all sides, when we hear a knock on the door. My friend who owns the appartment goes to see who it is, but comes back almost immediatly saying that whoever it is, has blocked the peephole. This had everyone concerned. We first wondered if it was the police, but almost immediatly threw that out because the police are required to identify themselves. This went on for a good 45 minutes, the knocking progressing from light knocks, to pounding, and finally to kicking of both the door and the door knob. By this point we were about to call the cops when we get a glimpes of who it is at the door..
Belive it or not, it was the cops! So we immediatly open the door. And have these two cops rush in, handcuff everyone and tell us we are under arrest for "pot". When I asked what code and artical were in violation of and what proof they had, the refused to tell me anything and contiuned on an illegal search saying the smelled pot. Now that kind of thinking may fly down in the states, but here in Canada, I can go down to any number of stores and buy insence that smells exactly like pot. Not only that, but it is prescribed here in Canada as a medication. All that leads to reasonable doubt and totally blows away any just cause.
So this whole thing lands with me at the station, where I am assulted by one of the officers as I am leaving the building (there were no charges laid obviously, if they did they would have to go to court and explain their actions and why they broke so many laws). The whole thing that is so sad is this is just a streight case of police harassment. There was no complaint and they were there on a totally unrealated call and started to act like children.
But then again, I live in Edmonton. Home of the most corupt cops in Canada.
Hope that chears ya up, cause no mater what it could be worse. At least you don't have cops smashing down your door illegally to harrass you and steal your property!
