shiping and aviation uses knots and nautical miles for speed and distance respectively (and communicate in English).

I also strongly suspect that altitude is measured in feet, but I'm not sure.

In the UK the law says that all products sold by weight or volume have to be sold by metric units, but almost all shops have both metric and imperial units on display.
