| And sleep depravation likely isn't helping a bit. Last night (a few hours ago) before delving hot-n-heavy into my project I wrote a rather lengthy email. I sent it to our company President, our COO, a couple of department heads, a couple of senior engineers, and a senior project manager. If I were still in the Army, and the things discussed in this email were actually done face to face it's what we'd call a "Come to Jesus" meeting. As in..."You need to pull your heads out of your butts and see the light I am showing you or suffer eternal damnation." Usually those go from the top down, not the bottom up. Though tactful, there was a bit of a butt-chewing element to it regarding the way some of the guys have handled certain situations on their projects. I also confessed that I pulled two guys off of project 'b' (in another state) and redirected them for a week to help finish project 'a'. I did this because the customer gave us a deadline today for completion that is sooner than the schedule we have been working to. Normally not a big deal, we shuffle guys around all the time, but I did it without permission to invoice for the extra labor from the customer. Essentially I put the company at risk to not get paid for a weeks worth of work, travel, lodging, rental cars, materials, and per diem on two guys who are in the middle of their own project right now. I think my reasons for doing it are sound, and I think (hope) the president will back me. But I said very explicitly that the decision was 100% mine because I don't want the department head or the project manager who gave up their guys on my request to get in trouble if the customer doesn't want to pony up the five or six thousand dollars this week is going to cost us. Anyway... I'm just waiting for the world to wake up and see what the reaction to my email is going to be. Should be interesting. |
