Geek Question #2 (Linux-SUSE ) by hieraco2005-03-16 01:39:35
some answers by stacato 2005-03-16 01:49:00
1) You can install SuSE on the same HDD as WinXP Pro IF it is partinioned correctly. You can not install SuSE on NTFS. Not even on FAT for that matter. You would need two partitions for linux by the way. One for swap and one for the actual install.
2) Well, if your bootloader barks, you can restore it with the WinXP CD. there is a bootloader repair function in it. google for it. rather easy to find. The risk is always there. Do not underestimate the destructive power of Lilo and Grub. Never had that problem with SuSE though. It's just like installing Winders realy. YAST2 grabs you by the hand and guides you through the process like a guide dog for blind people.
3) I worked with SuSE for 3 years during my first job. I liked it as a started distro. rpms made my life easy and YAST was great for installing stuff from the CD and the SuSE FTP. My mate is currently using SuSE on 64bit AMDs at my old job and they are loving it.
