There were guns there. Well, at least one gun. A rifle. A kid went in to get some bullies a week after Columbine. I think one person died. The kid with the gun should be out of prison now ... but I remember it on CBC a week ago ... I can't remember what they were saying about him though. I hope he learned a lot of good things in the correctional system.
Anyhow, yeah, most places there aren't guns in school.
Of course, there were also guns in my elementary school, but that was for the Hunter Safety course. I bet they don't bring in guns anymore ... I know they did it up to 1999 though - what year was Columbine? Ah, April '99. Yeah, they probably don't bring guns in anymore.
So, yeah, teaching in Canada can be good. And mostly gun-free. :)
Also *please* go on exchange, at least! I had a great teacher from the States for grade three on an exchange (I feel so bad for the poor Wisconsin kids that got stuck with the lady who was supposed to be my teacher!). Miss Disrud rocked. I still know all the States in (mostly) alphabetical order because of her ...
