serifs, according to usability studies, are more difficult to read online than sans-serifs. Of course, studies rely on percentages, so I'm sure some people are better with serifs even online, but the fact that sans-serifs are better for the majority of people, I'd say that most web sites (the ones that use sans-serifs) are right to do what they do with the sans-serifs. You know that you can set your own override font in your browser settings, right?
