Question for Independent Contractors... by niwikki2005-03-15 16:06:21
Late chiming in but... by deadweasle2005-03-15 19:02:39
I'm working 15 hours per week. by niwikki 2005-03-15 21:35:30
I don't think they'll think I'm a fulltime employee, or my pay would likely be below minimum wage.

I am a 1099 employee, but to my knowledge a W-9 hasn't been filled out. I gave my employer my SSN so this could be done, but I wouldn't be surprised if she lost it before anything was done with it.

However, I don't intend on staying a 1099 employee for the whole year even, let alone beyond this tax term. If I return after taking the Bar exam (I'll be taking about 3 months off for the Bar exam), I'm going to insist on being a salaried employee on payroll. I hate having my pay depend on me being there a certain amount of time and worrying about costing my employer more by staying an extra 20 minutes to finish something for a client, and trying to decide whether my employer would mind me staying that extra 20 minutes or whether I'd be better off putting everything away and trying to figure out where I stopped when I come back the next day...

I've got work again tomorrow, I'll see her then and try to get this cleared up. But it probably wouldn't be a bad idea for me to have an invoice printed up just in case. Though my time breakdown is currently on her office computer so I can't do that from home.

anyway, thanks for the info! (this goes for everyone) :)
