My wife's a schoolteacher in Prince George's County, MD (for those of you that don't know MD geography, that's just NE of Washington, DC). She loves teaching, but she rarely gets to do it, thanks to the superintendent of the county public school system (who styles himself the C.E.O., because a school system should be run like a business in his most unhumble opinion). Still, she sneaks a little bit of learning into the kids' heads now and then, thanks to the support of her prinicipal.
Now, that support is apparently falling away, because today, my wife brought a student problem to her principal. The principal completely rejected her point of view, saying the problem was with my wife and not the student. She doesn't recall who blew up first, but they started yelling at each other. My wife is no longer sure she can manage to teach at all if she can't count on her principal to support her.
Prayers and good vibes for a really nifty third-grade teacher, please? |
