The national did a really good documentary about it not too long ago. What they found out really scared me to be honest. It sucks that the boarder is closed, and that is really hurting alot of good people.. but at least I don't feel scared eating the food!
In the end it has been really bad for the US. Of the four major meat packers here. 3 are TOTALLY US owned. They also have all been caught with their hands in the cookie jar, taking money ear marked to help those hurt by the closures. The really funny thing is.. Meat is just as expensive here, if you buy it in the supermarket.. skip the packers and the price drops down to what it is supposed to be.. anyone think that being able to BUY beef super cheap and sell it at the same price just MIGHT help to pad some profits????? Nawwww.. that would NEVER happen.
Now we are creating our own packing capasitly and developing markets overseas. You see, Alberta and Canada have excellent reputations for beef. But before, all that beef was sold over seas by.. AMERICAN firms. Now we sell our own beef overseas and the profits come back to Canada, and NOT the US. It is good for us, bad for the US. |
