How's that job thing going? Aren't you still trying to juggle several classes on top of it?
As for the main track, I've done a little self-employment stuff, but never to the level of needing to do estimated taxes. I humbly recommend doing everything in Excel (you can import into Word easily enough if anyone ever really needs it that way) and printing hard copy for your own records every pay period-- even if your boss wants it submitted electronically, it's too easy to lose one version of the template in the shuffle. And since you won't have W-2's to document your income, you've gotta have the dead trees somehow.
My experience with the IRS's idea of "based on the previous year" is in relation to a different topic, but they seem to mean exactly that: if your income subject to estimated taxes last year was zero, then that's that. Don't take my word for it, though; their website can be informative in the end, if you settle in for a long session of reading things that looked relevant but aren't before you finally find what you need. |
