I don't think special tax rules for any group are a good idea. Just think how many tax accountants and laywers you could do without if there were no special cases in the tax rules. Or more importantly how many fewer tax collectors you would need to check that everyone paied the correct amount. Anything that adds special cases and bureaucracy is a bad idea no idea how noble the intent. That said, given the mess that the tax laws are in I can't think of a more deserving group if you are going to add more rules.
