What is happening is a controlled experiment conducted by Dr. Martin Schechter and the University of British Columbia. From what I am reading here, this is a program to see what the effect would be in reducing the spread of infectious deseses amongst injection heroin users. The Canadian government is NOT giveing out free Heroin. This is a VERY LIMITED EXPERIMENT and it is NOT offical law, nor is there any plans for it to become so. The director of the safe injection sites is hopeful this will reduce the spread of these desesses and reduce overdose deaths, but the study isn't done so there is no data as of yet.
Read the Fox artical, THEN read the CBC artical. You will see what I mean when I speak of fear mongering. I still would say this story has more to do with the impending legalization of pot here in Canada then anything else. |
