It's not so much about solving problems I have with the language but why they did with (to?) it what they did.

The three examples that bugged me the most:

Use of 'virtual': Polymorphy is a central idea of any OO language, so why the heck make it the exception that needs to be specified, instead of making it the default with classes?

Variable initialization lists: Completely unnecessary and incredibly ugly constructs. A compiler should be able to extract const initializations from the constructor.

Inheritance visibility: Okay, that one bothers me the most, since it completely violates proper OO. Making (part of) the interface of the superclass private or protected is a pretty nasty violation of the classes 'contract'. Okay, that makes the respective super classes 'inaccessible base classes'. But who the hell came up with making THAT the default!?
