but its a PITA so I stopped.
;)
I just cannot imagine what odd stuff could be. I mean, I have some apps and utils from 85 on my system (yes, dos 2.1 stuff) and I still use them (rarely). That is pretty dangerous - the older stuff occasionally used direct HW calls which crash new OSes at times. Calling for an RLL drive sector in HW memory locations likely wouldn't be appreciated on an XP system with SATA drives.
And I still think XP is more stable than 2k.
When 95 was out, I waited to upgrade to 98, because 95 was great and 98 sucked.
Then I eventually went to 98, and waited to upgrade to W2K because 98 was great and W2K sucked.
Then I eventually went to W2K and waited to upgrade to XP because W2K was great and XP sucked.
See the pattern?
Now I'm on XP, and it's great. It's the best OS ever. It rocks. There is no greater OS, and nothing will ever be better.
Until I upgrade to the next incarnation, which will be 1-2 yrs after it is released, and then the new one will be great and the next one down the line will suck.
I really think MS keeps getting better. They have a lot of work to do to close the security nightmare they opened when they decided that the OS should execute files based on content and not naming, but overall its a great OS. |
