On multiple machines for years. I find both of them are stable (though uptime just isn't nearly as good as Linux or other *nix machines). However, I can offer an explanation why XP is often considered less stable.
I had a friend who worked with ATI and he gave me a good explanation: XP, when it comes to core OS services, is, in fact, more stable than 2K, but, due to the increased reliance on the graphics driver with all the new eye candy and such, there are more crashes. The problem is the video card driver (I don't remember the number he quoted, but it was responsible for a very large percentage of crashes).
If you update to the latest video drivers and disable most of the eye candy, I would guess that WinXP would crash far less than 2K. |
