Happy Anniversary(?) by Nashville 2005-03-15 08:18:55
When I first took a job here as a programmer analyst fairly fresh out of college ( "fairly" = <2 years), my plans were simple and straightforward - a couple of years here to look good on a resume, and on to the next bigger better thing. Maybe 18 months - maybe less if something really sexy pops up - but 2 years max. In a field where the average tour of duty can be 4-6 months, I figured a ToD long enough to be measured in years would demonstrate "stability".

That was in 1987. Today is my 18-year anniversary with this agency.

There have been a small planet's worth of changes in the past 18 years; for one thing, I've clawed my way up from programmer analyst to regional IT director. I find myself wondering, though, if maybe I haven't been at one place too long. On the flip side of that coin, I also find myself wondering what I could expect to find at another job that would be much better than this one.

Happy anniversary - 18 years down, and only 13 to go to minimum retirement age.
