Too bad you all missed it!
Actually, you're not the only ones... almost nobody here seemed to know that the jazz concert was tonight. Since the official advertisers don't seem to be very effective, I'll make my own flyers for the next one and paste them all over my residence hall. I've got friends in all of the other residence halls too, so they can put them up there.
I've also decided to start my own small jazz group. So far I've got about 13% of the instrumentation that I need - we have one trumpet player. And by we I mean me. And so is he. I mean he's me.
However, it's not as far-fetched as it seems - I do know where to find most of the people I need. The guitar nut across the hall that I'm always complaining about can be put to good use... Oh yeah, I did find a bass player. And he has already agreed to play for me. So I guess I have about 25% of the people I need. Someone on this floor has a trombone - I've heard it before several times. I'll recruit them as well. Same goes for the guy next door who plays his keyboard at 4 am.
Trumpet, trombone, piano, guitar, bass. That leaves alto sax, bari sax, and drums. I can make do without the bari if I have to - not too many people play that, so I may have some difficulty finding one. Someone around here has to play the alto sax... and finding a drummer shouldn't be all that difficult.
If possible, I'd like all the members of my little band to be freshmen, since that way we could probably stick together throughout college - assuming co-op cycles don't screw things up, in which case adjustments will have to be made.
So, what do you guys think? Does that sound like a decent plan? |
